We dreamt of better lives, a brand new page to turn.

We say we've not moved on, but that never lasts past dawn.

We didn't let our futures be dictated by our pasts;

Now nothing is left, nothing ever lasts.

God I miss the way we laughed, the way we cried the way we felt,

The way we'd make the best of it, no matter the cards that we were dealt.

When did we start wishing that we could have a happy ending?

And when did we stop trying to be happy until our ending?

When we meet again you won't be who you were, it's such a shame;

If you step foot in a river once and step in it again?

You can't expect the water that runs past you to remain the same.

I know if I step foot into the river, you won't be the same as you were back then.

That's the truth, and not one I want to have to face,

Everything we've been through, now I see our time was just a race.

And the one who crossed the finish line first; just before the rest

Was the one who tore us all apart, but maybe that was for the best.

We always knew an end would come, maybe sooner yet hopefully later

But the sooner was somehow too soon, the friendship we had was our traitor

And so here we are, utter strangers to each other's hearts and mind.

This is where it ends, god if only we were never blind.
